Letter U is full of surprises

What a surpise it was when it began raining inside preschool!! It was more like drizzle than rain (coming from a squirt bottle) but it was enough to get lots of squeals from the children.

Good thing Miss Marie had a very large umbrella to keep us dry.

Everyone got a turn to hold it when it "rained" again.

The rain finally subsided (although I got one extra surpise squirt in at the end, just for fun) and we read stories.
We told the story of Chicken Little. In this version of the story, Chicken Little is walking in the forest when an acorn falls on her head which she mistakes for the sky falling. She goes to tell the king and meets many friends on the way (Henny Penny, Goosey Poosey and others). She is almost tricked into being dinner by Foxy Woxy, but the kings hunting dogs chase him off. Then the king generously gives her an umbrella so she will not feel any sky, or acorns, falling on her head.

At snack time, the children were surpised to have a TREAT! Upside-down ice cream cones. We ususally have a healthy snack since it is pretty close to lunch time, but we made an exception this day.

The ice cream was on the bottom in the bowl.

Yummy! Chocolate or vanilla cones.

V is for vehicles, Vroom, Vroom!

We talked about all kinds of vehicles today, Monster trucks, convertibles, firetrucks, ambulances, dump trucks, 18 wheelers, race cars, etc.,
We took this BIG book and made a ramp out of it and raced the vehicles to see which one went the fastest and the furthest.
This book is soooo fun to look at! We didn't read any of it, but just enjoyed looking at the pictures! A pickle car shaped like a pickle, a battery operated car shaped like a battery! Every page is loaded with lots of fun vehicles to look at!
This book was a lot of fun, it talked about different vehicles and each page ended with the sound of the vehicle and off we go!
This book showed lots of different kinds of vehicles, too.

We then took our vehicles and saw how their different tire tracks made really cool prints with paint.

Vroom! Vroom!
What kind of tracks does your vehicle make?

I brought a big truck to play in.
Vroom! Vroom!

My turn to drive!

Come on, Let's get in the back!
Some of them got into making different vehicles with their snack.
A chopper
(helicopter)
These vehicles taste good, too!

Some tires...
Look a big truck!

Very creative!

Happy ST. Patrick's Day

What a better way to talk about St. Patrick's Day than to have cute children in all shades of green.
(Of course getting all 10 of them to sit still... another story).
Here is the story that started all of the fun, who knew the children would love this soo much!
(Sorry, you can't click to Look inside, it is the image from amazon.com)

The story tells of making a trap for Leprechauns, catching them, and getting some gold. Here is our trap we made. You have to have shiny things or gold to attract them...
Did the Leprechaun come yet and leave us some gold?

You have to be very quiet or you will scare the Leprechaun!
Shhhh, I think I saw one...
Miss Marie said they are only this big..

Let's go this way to find one.
Look the Leprechaun left us a rock to trick us.
(There is a part in the story that the Leprechaun left rocks with X's on them to trick the kids)
Really, I think I heard one!
Maybe he's hiding behind the toy cabinet.
I think I saw him outside!
LOOK! The Leprechaun left us some
Gold!!!!!
Yum, the best kind of gold, chocolate!

What's a ST. Patrick's Day celebration with out eating something green!

We played a fun game where they got to put the Leprechaun's hat on and pretend they were the Leprechaun, they closed their eyes while a Shamrock was being hid behind their friends.

We would then say:
Leprechaun, Leprechaun, Where's your Shamrock?
Guess Who? Maybe You? Maybe a Monkey from the Zoo?
Come on Leprechaun find your Shamrock!

One is behind you!

No peeking!

What a fun day we had! I heard from many of you that they talked about Leprechauns for quite a while and set traps for them! :)
