X-Ray pictures.. kind of

There are only so many things you can talk about for the letter X. X-Ray is one of the main things. We talked about them and read the book, Jessica's X-Ray. It has real x-rays in it! It is a great book. She gets to go a tour of the hospital while her cast is drying and sees all different kinds of x-rays. (cat scans, ultrasounds, MRI)

I have this silly little app on my ipod that my son downloaded for me to take pictures of people that supposedly makes them look like x-rays. I took pictures of the children with this app and they got to guess who they thought it was.

W is for Wheat

We learned all about Wheat for letter W. We looked at stalks of wheat, wheat kernals and wheat flour. We read the story of the Little Red Hen. Next we all made a mini loaf of wheat bread to take home and share. We talked about which part of the wheat is edible and how it grows.

Kneading the dough is the best part of making bread.

It sure made the house smell good when it was baking!

Under My Umbrella

Under My umbrella I am dry.

When it's raining my oh my.

I wait until the raindrops stop,

Now no umbrella on my top.

Good thing we had umbrellas handy on Letter U day when it began to rain inside preschool!

We also colored umbrellas and fingerpainted raindrops on them.

The children are getting so good at counting. This umbrella worksheet focused on numbers 6-9. Match the numbered umbrellas to the correct number of raindrops. At preschool we work on counting one number each time you touch a raindrop.

We also talked about Up and Under. What things belong up high in the sky? What belongs under the ground. On our craft we glued pictures of things that were Up (airplanes, balloons, the sun) and things that lived underground (ants, worms, a mole).

Bonus fun picture: I love to watch how engrossed they are when they listen to stories!

Seeds

Letter S is for Sunflowers and Seeds. We examine several different vegetables and their seeds, including red pepper...

tomatoes...

avocado...

and peas.

Peas are fun to open and find their seeds. Everyone got their own pod to open.

We also tasted some of the vegetables that we looked at. It's always fun to try different foods, right?

We planted pansy seeds in a cup for our craft.
First you add some dirt and pat it down.

Poke some holes and sprinkle seeds in them.

Then add a little water. A squirt bottle is a great way to water seeds without drowning them.

Put your seeds in a sunny window and watch them grow. Hopefully your child's little seeds have sprouted!
