Do dinosaurs eat donuts?

No... but Preschoolers do!
We ate donuts for a treat on Letter D day. Mmmm. They were delicious!

We also counted donuts using this fun song:
Down around the corner at the bakery shop
There were seven little donuts with sugar on top.
Along came (child's name) all alone
She/He picked one out and ran on home.

Letter D is for Dinosaurs
On Dinosaur Day, we talked about different kinds of dinosaurs, when they lived and what they ate. There was some concern when I told the children that for snack time we were going to eat what the dinosaurs ate, including: Trees, Meat, and Small Animals. They were relieved to hear that I meant broccoli with ranch dressing, ham, and animal crackers.

They devoured their snack with great delight.

Since dinosaurs are extinct, we read books about how we can dig up their bones to learn about them. Although, when I asked how we know dinosaurs lived on the earth, Lexi replied, "Because I saw them at Disneyland."
Luckily, we had some dinosaur bones buried right in our backyard! They were in the sand in these buckets. What a coincidence! All we had to do was go uncover the fossils to see what might have lived here.

Triceratops
Pterodactyl

Tyrannosaurus Rex

Next we made our own dinosaur skeletons.

And dinosaur headbands.
Evan took his home to finish and we missed Kassidy that day so I don't have their pictures.
Other Fun Letter D Activities
We also talked about Ducks. We sang "5 Little Ducks" which talks about the little duck with the feathers on his back who leads the others with a quack quack quack. The children took turns being the leader and quacking around the room.

We are always working on scissor skills such as the right way to hold them and how to control them. (We also try to mention frequently that scissors are only for cutting paper!) The finished duck craft with feathers was relatively simple but it gave the children a chance to cut on a curve.
During opening table we used new foam beads. This also works on fine motor skills. They had fun making patterns, spelling their name and stringing the beads. They were quite proud of what they made!
