Sunflowers and Seeds

We studied seeds for Letter S.  We examined the seeds inside several different vegetables, including green pepper, tomatoes, cucumbers, kiwi and avocado to compare sizes, colors and shapes.  Some of the foods we sampled to see which seeds we could eat.  We decided that some were ok to eat but they weren't very yummy (tomatoes).

We also planted viola seeds in a cup.  Add a little dirt, seeds and a sprinkling of water (a quirt bottle works well if you just don't want to drown the seeds.)  Add sunshine at home and hopefully they will grow.

These are our sunflowers that we made.  We learned about how a sunflower follows the sun across the sky and then bows its head at night when the sun is down.  We had fun pretending to be a sunflower that follows the sun.
