Eggs

We are talking about letter E this week and so we learned about eggs. Eggs can be all different sizes and shapes. Not all eggs look like chicken eggs. We read Chickens Aren't the Only Ones and Dragon Egg to get some ideas of eggs that look different than what we usually think of.

Today we made German Pancakes because they use lots of eggs.

How to make German Pancakes: Step 1: Each child gets to crack an egg. Tap it gently on the table and pull it open into a bowl. Don't worry about getting slimy, that's half the fun (although it's helpful to have lots of paper towels handy.)

Sometimes you have to pull hard to get the shell apart!

Be sure to crack it into a seperate bowl first so you can pick out all the shells. We only had a few pesky shells that needed to be fished out.

Add milk, flour, sugar, salt and butter. Combine all ingredients into a blender. Preschoolers are good at dumping in ingredients and counting how many cups we've added. Blend well.

Sometimes the blender is loud.

Let the pancakes bake while we play. Mmmm they smelled good! We cleaned up the toys fast today so we could go eat them.

Drizzle with syrup and enjoy! They were a hit for snack time.

German Pancakes:
6 eggs
1 1/2 tbsp. sugar
3/4 tsp. salt
1 cup flour
1 cup milk
3 tbsp. melted butter

Blend eggs until fluffy. Add remaining ingredients and blend. Pour a thin layer (about 1 inch) of batter into 2 greased pie pans or a shallow baking pan. Bake at 400 degrees for 15 minutes, then 350 degrees for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
