Apple Day

Going a Field Trip!
We went to the George's house (a friend of Donna & Marie) just a couple of streets over to pick apples.  They have the perfect size apple tree & apples for little hands.  They were low enough for them to pick.  They each had a bag to put their apples in with their name on it.

Later that day we had an apple taste test.  We had several different kinds of apples.  They each tried a bite of all the different kinds.  They liked them all!  (The little apple is the from the apples we picked, which is a crab apple.)
YUM!!!

(In the afternoon class we even found a worm in one of the apples we picked.)
Yuck!
BUT
Fascinating!!

We glued and painted apples on a tree.
They were told to dip one finger in the paint to make the apples.
They did a great job!

A is for... airplanes & alligators

When we have the letter of the week we try to do some creative way for them to practice the letter.  According to their level it could be sight recognition or writing it.  Here they are with the bendable wax sticks that stick to the wall practicing "writing" their As.

 We made airplane pictures

And
Alligators
with the letter A

We sang the Monkey & the alligator song.  They loved it.. You probably heard it at home.  Ask them to sing it for you with the cute little actions!

3 Little monkey swinging in the tree
Teasing Mr. Alligator
Can't catch me
Can't catch me
Along came Mr. Alligator
As quiet as can be
And
Snap! that monkey OUT of that Tree!!

5 Senses

Taste
We made chocolate chip zucchini muffins. Each child helped add ingredients and took a turn stirring. They also got to taste the chocolate chips before we added them to the batter. While we played, the muffins baked.
We ate them for snack time and they were delicious!

Hearing and Sight
We looked at the pictures in books that showed interesting things. We also examined holograms.

We listened to stories, sounds around preschool and recordings of animal sounds. They guessed what kind of animal made each sound. Here is the PM class listening intently. Touch
We felt objects with different textures such as sandpaper, cotton balls and sponges. Later we made a "Texture Turtle" using small pieces of the same materials that we felt earlier. The children described how each item felt.
Smell
We smelled a few different foods to see if they smelled good or bad. They were divided about vanilla but everyone agreed that the muffins smelled wonderful during toy time.

I also asked them what other things smelled good. They said: dinner, juice, cookies, sugar, hotdogs, oranges and hamburges. I also asked what smelled stinky. They said: skunks, feet, garbage, fish, socks, dirt, and brown bananas.
