Happy Mother's Day!!

I had to share these pictures! We had so much fun making your Mother's day cards! We had each of the children put lipstick on (with a q-tip), had them kiss a piece of paper, then gave them a wipe to clean their lips. When I explained what we were going to do at circle time, you should of seen some of the boys faces! Priceless! I explained that it was a one time thing and that their moms would treasure their kiss & that they could wipe it off right away and that even in the movie Star Wars boys wore make-up, so it was ok just for the one time! The girls were open mouthed and ready & willing to get to wear lipstick!

One of my favorites, it took a lot of coaching...

Here is the poem we put in card with the kiss on the paper:

Mother's Day Kisses
A kiss from me,
a kiss to you;
a kiss for
everything you do.
A kiss for love,
for wrongs and rights;
a kiss for motherly sacrifice.
Mother-
you deserve them all!

Fire Station Field Trip

We toured the Lacey Fire Station last week. First, every one needed to be a Junior Firefighter. They each got a badge to wear.

We saw the facilities including where they workout, sleep and eat.

Then one of the firefighters demonstrated how they put their special clothing on. Did you know they put their boots on and then their pants? They leave their boots attached to their pants so they can just slip them on.
The mask they wear looked and sounded pretty funny.

Next we got a look at the firetrucks. The trucks are so tall everyone needed a boost to get in it.

The kids even got a turn to ring the bell on the front bumper of the truck.

It was loud!

Before we left, we saw the old fashioned fire truck in the lobby with the fire dog (a favorite part for many of the kids).

Also in the lobby is the fire pole, but they don't use it anymore. It is just for decoration.
Thank you Lacey Fire Department for letting us come visit the fire station!

The week of z

We made monkey bread. What does this have to do with the letter Z? We talked about zoo animals and what our favorite zoo animals were. I told them my favorite zoo animal is a monkey, so we made monkey bread. We took a survey and found out which zoo animal they liked the best. We compared which one was liked the most and the least.

We also made a chart of where the animals belong. I gave them several animal stickers and they put them in categories of zoo/pet/farm animals.

The children put on a zoo animal masks or hats and danced to "Going to the zoo" by raffi. I would then stop the music and they would switch hats/masks.

We also baked zucchini chocolate chip muffins. YUM!!!

It was hard to choose which zoo books to read, there are so many fun ones. "Good Night Gorilla" is a really fun one. It is almost all pictures and shows how the gorilla stole the keys from the zookeeper and let all of the animals come home with him.

"z" day wouldn't be complete with out making some kind of zebras!

So Much Fun With Letter Y

Yak and Yellow We talked about the color yellow and made a yak with yellow yarn.

They turned out so cute and individual.

For show and tell, Alex brought yogurt to share. What a yummy treat!

Since the sun decided to make a rare appearance this day, we headed outside for some fresh air and fun. It has been quite a while since we've been able to go outside. The kids were so excited to jump on the new trampoline! I have a lot of very blurry pictures of their excited faces but here are just a few of the pictures you can see.

Yummy and Yucky

This is one of our favorite lesson. I asked the children what they thought was yummy. They replied: sandwiches, pancakes for dinner, carrots, rice, hot dogs, macaroni and cheese, potatoes and eggs. Then I asked them what they thought was yucky: dirty socks that aren't washed, eggs, rotten pumpkins, rotten apples, things on the ground, and stinky shoes.

For our first craft we made something yummy: Gingersnaps. The neat thing about gingersnaps is that they are made with molasses and nutmeg. We smelled these two ingredients and everyone agreed that they smelled pretty yucky. But, they tasted yummy when they were baked in cookies.

After mixing the dough, everyone got a little bit to roll into a ball and dip in sugar.

We baked them during play time and they were a delicious treat for snack.

After reading stories about yummy and yucky foods, talking about our favorite things to eat and making something yummy, the kids got to try some different foods and see what they thought.

We tried blue corn chips, canteloupe, sausage, plain tuna (no mayo in it), yogurt covered pretzels and star fruit. I have never tasted star fruit before. It was interesting. Not bad but not great.

It is pretty fun to see cut up, though.

Everyone took at least one bite of each food and then "voted" with their yummy/yucky signs.

Some they liked.

Some they didn't like.

Some got mixed reviews.

It was a fun adventure to try all these foods.
